Who we are
In 1935, an 18-year-old sailor named E.B. Mitchell bought his first camera for $2. What began as a passion for capturing moments would evolve into a legendary career documenting Orlando's vibrant black community and breaking barriers as the first African American photographer at The Orlando Sentinel in 1963. But beyond the lens, E.B. had another love—golf. Under the scorching Florida sun, he perfected his swing while wearing his signature pastel colors, turning heads not just with his skill but with his style. When others wore dark, heavy fabrics, E.B. understood that golf in Florida demanded something different: light, breathable pastels that reflected both the heat and his vibrant personality. At age 7, I learned the game from my grandfather's patient hands. He taught me more than golf—he taught me about perseverance, style, and the importance of standing out for all the right reasons. Today, E.B. Mitchell Golf Co. honors his legacy by bringing his timeless Florida golf aesthetic to a new generation.
